Contactless check-in

has arrived
in Dubai.

Benefits for Hotels & Guests

Dubai has introduced a groundbreaking citywide policy enabling visitors to check into hotels and holiday homes through fully contactless, mobile-based journeys. Announced by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the initiative allows travellers to complete all
check-in formalities before arrival using digital identity and biometric verification. This means no waiting in line and much less time spent at the front desk.

In the past, international visitors and UAE residents had to present their passports or Emirates IDs in person at check-in so hotels could scan the documents on-site. This was a required and often time-consuming step for every stay. With the new system developed by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), guests can now complete secure verification on their phones, saving up to 80% of their check-in time. Those who finalize a full digital check-in can bypass the front desk entirely.

Sheikh Hamdan highlighted that this rollout supports the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, reinforcing the emirate’s commitment to smart, seamless, and secure visitor experiences.

Shaping the future of travel

A Citywide Partnership Driving Transformation

This initiative is extraordinary not only for its technology but for its scale. Creating a unified digital check-in process for an entire city requires deep collaboration between government entities, hotel operators, and technology partners. Dubai’s coordinated approach ensures consistency, regulatory compliance, and a smooth guest experience across all participating hotels and holiday homes. To deliver this system, hotels need secure identity processes and smooth integration with their existing platforms. Technology partners help hotels adopt the new DET framework quickly and successfully.
